Are you ready to take your dance journey to the next level? Our unique Production Class Program is a fun way to explore building a comprehensive dance show in a small cast setting.
This year we have 35 spots in the cast of our new dance production “The Jungle Room”. Auditions are required for all those who wish to participate in the program.
ABOUT THE SHOW
OVERVIEW: Using music from Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox, go back in time and join us at The Jungle Room, an underground club filled to the brim sultry dances and exciting performances. Follow the story of the performers and staff who work in the Jungle Room as the wade their way through love, crime and deceit.
DANCE STYLES: Cabaret Jazz, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Partner Dancing (various styles), Tap, Chair Dance, Tie Up and Tease
CHARACTERS: There are 7 principle roles and 28 chorus roles. (Please look below for more details regarding the principle roles).
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Production Class will run from May – October 2018. If you were in this program last year we have made some significant changes to scheduling and general lay out of the dances.
FEES: This program is $75 a month as a part of the Competitive Program fee structure for memberships or $375 in full. Costume fees for this program are $200 each and will require students to outfit themselves in additional basics such as hosiery. All performers will require jazz slippers and character shoes as well as tap shoes if they audition and are cast in any of the tap numbers (don;t worry if you don’t know how to tap, you will not be cast in tap). Registration information will be collected at the audition.
A rehearsal schedule will be released before the audition. Principle roles will begin the first week of May to begin story staging. The chorus will begin June 7th. Rehearsals will end after the Victoria show on Thursdays and there will be some weekend rehearsing to prepare for the tour show October 13th. At the audition students will be allowed to select how many dances they will be comfortable learning which will determine how they are cast and how much rehearsing will be required. Options will be 3 routines, 6 routines or 9 routines (please note this does not guarantee that you will get the requested amount). Rehearsals will take place Monday -Thursday evenings. PLEASE NOTE: You will not be required for all rehearsals. We will release the rehearsal schedule prior to the audition so you can see how the schedule will work over the summer. Starting in September rehearsals will be Thursday evenings leading up to the show.
SHOWS AND TOUR: All students are required to be available for the performance on September 22, 2018 as well as the two weeks leading up to the show. Any student who is away on holiday September 4-22 may not be cast in the show. All principle roles are also required to be available from October 19-22 for our tour to Kelowna. Chorus members are absolutely encouraged to come on tour as well (we hope you all do!) but it is not mandatory.
AUDITION / PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
All those who wish to audition for this program just have completed one year of technique (or have relevant experience that you will need permission from one of the choreographers for). General audition requirements include a pirouette, knowledge of how to do a pas de bourre and a jete jump upon request (ie: we don’t have to show you how to do it- you already know how).
Ultimately this program is looking for a strong performance. We are looking for performers who stand out and know how to work a crowd. Intermediate dancers are absolutely encouraged to audition for this program as well as advanced.
Principle roles are reserved for students who have participated in Passion and Performance’s Company, Jazz Technique 3, Promo Crew or Faculty with the exception of those auditioning for the roles of Casey and Mykal.
Please note that this is a rigorous program. Modifications to choreography will be limited.
CHORUS: Everyone must attend the chorus audition. This audition will take place from 1:30-3:00 PM and will be run like a dance class. We will do a warm up, three styles of choreography instructed in groups and that’s it! Please be sure to bring tap shoes if you wish to audition for any of the tap roles or chorus sections that include tap.
PRINCIPLES: Principle auditions will take place from 3:00-4:30 PM. All those auditioning will be instructed the same piece of choreography. We will then host 10 minute segments for each character where those auditioning for the part will execute the steps (as a group) interpreting it as the character. Students are welcome to audition for multiple roles. There will be callbacks the following morning from 9:00-11:00 AM on Sunday, April 22nd for principle roles to further explore partner dynamics. Principles will be required to have strong acting skills and stage presence. This show does NOT have any talking.
